GARDAÍ ARE continuing to investigate the shooting dead of a young man in Dublin earlier this week.
Dean Johnson (20) died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and head in the attack in Clondalkin on Wednesday night.
At least four shots were fired at Johnson, who had been sitting in the back seat of a red Volkswagen Golf being driven by a young woman on Moorfield Avenue.
Johnson lived nearby with his parents and younger brother. His mother is believed to have been among a number of local people who rushed to the scene after hearing the shots being fired.
He was taken to Tallaght hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí say they are looking for a man who was seen running away in the direction of Neilstown Road shortly after the attack.
He is described as being in his early 20s and of stocky build. He was wearing a dark grey hoodie and tracksuit bottoms.
Johnson was known to gardaí and had been convicted of possession of a large quantity of ecstasy tablets with an estimated street value of €30,000 in 2008. However, gardaí do not believe he was a major player on the drugs scene.
Det Supt Walter O’Sullivan of Ronanstown Garda station yesterday appealed for residents of Moorfield Estate and of the wider community to come forward with any information they have regarding the incident.
Wednesday’s shooting happened about 400m from where two brothers were shot dead last June.
Kenneth (32) and Paul Corbally (35) from Ballyfermot were killed when a car they were sitting in on Neilstown Road, Clondalkin, was riddled with bullets.
Known armed robbers and drug dealers, they are believed to have been killed by former associates with whom they had fallen out.
Separately, gardaí are still continuing to investigate a shooting in a pub in Cabra on Wednesday in which two men were injured.
A 23-year-old man sustained a gunshot to the shoulder in the Cabra House pub. A second man in his 40s was also injured, although it is understood that he was not directly hit but received minor injuries due to shrapnel.
