Older drivers on provisional licences will be forced off the roads this summer unless their need for a new type of licence is addressed, an organisation promoting better policies for older people said yesterday.
Eamonn Timmins, of Age Action Ireland, said he believed the "restricted licence" proposals made by Green Party deputy leader Mary White this week are a serious attempt to address the needs of older provisional licence holders in rural Ireland.
Mr Timmins said if the restricted licence proposals were not accepted, he would like to see older people who are dependent on their car given priority when it comes to sitting tests.
