CLOTHES LINES:Buyer Karen Higgins of Brown Thomas "stumbled" upon a new Danish label called Selected last year in Barcelona and fell instantly for its style and prices. It's now in BT and with its flattering shapes and alluring prices (which start at about €30 for a scarf, about €100 for dresses and up to €300 for a soft leather jacket) is a real winner. The combination of serious style and good prices made sense, Higgins says.
Check out the lovely details such as petalled tops and tunics in silk organza, racer back silk dresses with tiny pleats, little waistcoats embellished with bevelled beads, handsome leather bags for about €100, the soft black silk shorts and great summer blazers. Colours are subtle too. Selected’s designer, Mette Christensen, fell into fashion almost by mistake – everybody loved the way she dressed and wanted what she wore. Her background is in handcraft and needlecraft and many pieces are inspired by vintage clothes. “Doing things correctly is more important to me than being creative,” she said on her recent visit to Dublin, pointing out that her clothes are as well made inside as out.
