HOLIDAY AT HOME:BLUEBELL WOODS, a stone house draped in clematis, jasmin and roses, and a personal well sum up the idyllic nature of this 1700s home sitting on the Oysterhaven inlet in Co Cork.

Annefield House, which is for sale at €1.65 million (down from €1.75 million) through joint agents Michael H Daniels and Co and Sheehy Brothers Estate Agents, is on 2.51 hectares (6.18 acres) of land and is reached via a driveway through the woods.

The entrance to the main house is through a door flanked by bay windows which, inside the house have seats set in them.

On the ground floor is a double drawingroom with exposed stairs in the middle and two period fireplaces. This room has a salvaged timber floor, as do most other downstairs rooms which include another sittingroom, kitchen, study, bedroom and utility room.

The kitchen has a vaulted ceiling and has painted maple cupboards, including an island unit. The Lacanche range cooker, with two ovens and five rings, is topped by a Scholtes stainless steel extractor hood.

Upstairs there three bedrooms (and a possible fifth on the first floor landing), each with exposed timber ceilings. There are two bathrooms here, one with a roll-top bath and shower, and the other with just a shower.

There is a barn attached to the house which is wired and plumbed, and a studio that is separate from the house. There is a restaurant close by and pubs, shop and restaurant in Nohoval, a five-minute drive away. Kinsale is 10km from the house and Cork city is 25km.
