ATHLONE - FROM €290,000:WITH THE MAY bank holiday coming up fast, agents of a waterfront scheme in Athlone will be hoping that buyers are ready to come out of hibernation for the final phase of a marina scheme.
The Jolly Mariner is a large apartment and townhouse development on the Shannon about a mile from the centre of Athlone. Built by John Lally's Lalco Developments, the now complete scheme is maturing nicely thanks to good landscaping and a strict code of maintenance.
According to selling agents Sherry FitzGerald New Homes and Sherry FitzGerald O'Meara, just a handful of units remain in the scheme with prices varying from €290,000 up to €370,000 for two-bedroom apartments that range in size from 77-89sq m (833-964sq ft).
Three-bed townhouses of 94sq m (1,017sq ft) are priced at €330,000. Secure underground and surface car-parking is included but, if you want to park your boat, it will cost an additional €52,500 for one of just six berths on the marina.
The striking urban-style development comprises five buildings of varying sizes, with most of the units looking out over the water.
In total, the Jolly Mariner has around 123 apartments and townhouses which sold well in earlier phases to affluent investors who like the idea of parking their boat outside their door.
"Athlone is close enough to Dublin, Galway and Limerick that they can even enjoy Sunday nights in their bolt-hole and not return to the city until Monday morning," says Eamon Foley of Sherry FitzGerald, who will be at the development this coming Sunday to handle enquiries.
All apartments and townhouses are fitted out to city standards, with smart kitchens complete with appliances, en suite bedrooms, large wardrobes, and high-tech cabling as standard. All apartments have balconies or terraces to enjoy the views.
There's plenty to do within cruising distance of the scheme. If that sounds too strenuous, one resident suggests that it's a quick 10-minute stroll to the Radisson Hotel for cappuccino and a read of the Sunday papers.
