A welcome new food addition to the South Circular Road is The Foodie Buddha, a small food shop located in a former ambulance supply premises near the Catholic church. Owner Claudia Marion, a Canadian married to an Irishman, had a stall in the George’s Street market for years called Loose End Green, but decided to move “to where people are living” and get away from the city centre. It’s stocked to the brim with cereals, rice, wholefoods, dried fruits, tea, mueslis, pastas and olive oils, all catering to current tastes. Pride of place in the shop is taken by a wonderful old wooden pharmacy counter, bought from Herman Wilkinson auctioneers, and a growing collection of interesting old mirrors that line the back wall of this late 19th-century building.

The shop also has a kitchen offering salads, sandwiches, tea and coffee, and customers are asking for outside tables. The Foodie Buddha, 12 South Circular Road, Dublin 2.
